There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
From Pink Floyd's "Comfrotably Numb"
I've been listening lately to Pink Floyd's songs, which is somehow surprising because I thought that I've already passed my rock stage. For years now, I've found myself increasingly preferring to listen to classical, jazz and world music. I thought it's because I'm getting older. Then, I heard Marty Casey sing Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here on the reality TV show Rockstar INXS and I'm hooked. Suddenly, I am feeling the urge to scour Tower Records for CDs of my favorite rock bands from when I was much younger.
Comfortably numb is exactly what I have been feeling lately.
