I don't like the phrase "takot sa Diyos" (fear of God). Isn't it better for people to do good things for the love of God or for the love of humanity rather than out of the fear that God will blast us to smithereens if we do wrong?
Whenever I hear people saying they want their children to grow up with "takot sa Diyos", I always say, "Wouldn't it be better if your children grow up doing good things because they know this is the right thing to do, and because they love God and they're trying to be Christ-like?"
