"Great loves always end in tragedy"

I saw Brokeback Mountain early this week and I must admit that it left me feeling devastated. To fall in love and be loved so completely and passionately is a wondrous thing but to find that kind of love and be constrained by society to publicly declare it and live it is a tragedy. I read somewhere before that “great loves always end in tragedy,” referring to the stories of Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde, Catherine and Heathcliff… The story of Ennis and Jack is now one of those tragic stories that would continue to haunt us – beautiful yet painful.
